Emotional Wellbeing of Older People (EWOP) program

CESPHN engaged Later Consulting in late 2024 to undertake an evaluation of the Emotional Wellbeing of Older People (EWOP) program.

This program is delivered by Anglicare in residential aged care facilities (RACF), providing support to older people who would otherwise be unable to access mental health support, as well as psychoeducation and support for staff. The evaluation used both qualitative and quantitative methods to map the current model of care, explore outcomes and understand the client experience of the program.

Results of the evaluation highlighted:

  • The EWOP service is viewed in very positive terms by clients, their families and RACF workers, with many describing significant changes in their lives through service participation.
  • The number of sessions available for clients was deemed as too few.
  • The EWOP service model demonstrated broad alignment with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing guidance.

Various barriers to service delivery were identified (e.g., referral processes, low mental health literacy among RACF staff).

Larter Consulting made four key recommendations for service delivery improvement in their final report.

CESPHN will meet with Anglicare to discuss the key findings and recommendations to be implemented in the coming year.
